Extubated.

The breathing tube is out. It was removed at about 1:45 pm. He is doing well. His O2 sats are on average in the low 70's. As he coughs more and really gets his lungs going, those will go up. The cardiologist said that he would be surprised if they weren't up to normal range (for Alex) by the time we leave the hospital.
He is grumpy. I think mostly because he is STARVING! They make them wait 6 hours after extubation to eat. They said that he can probably have some pedialyte at 4 hours, so that would be at about 6:00. They have been giving us sugar water to dip his binkie in, but that is mostly making him mad. He licks the sugar off and then spits out the binkie! Real dummy, huh?
We have not been able to hold him yet. He still has a line that goes into his heart, and his meds are going through that. So when that is removed, then we can hold him. He looks really good, although when his sats go down, he starts to get a pale blue coloring to him. Poor guy! He is still just as beautiful to us! What a tough kid. What a merciful Father in Heaven we have. He loves each of us, and has blessed our sweet little Alex so much. We are forever grateful for that.
