It's a 30 gallon tank that came with everything, plants, rocks, heater, light, etc, etc. The only thing we needed to get was a new filter, and a stand.
We surprised Sam with it last Saturday and spent most of the day getting it set up.
As you can imagine, Sam was thrilled! All day long he was asking, "when can we get some fish"?, "hey dad, is it time to go get fish yet"? Well, it's hard for a 4 year old to understand that now that the tank is set up, we have to wait 7-10 days for it to be "ready" to put fish in. So we decided to get some "really cool" goldfish to put in there now. We figured that 3, 13 cent goldfish wouldn't be too much of a loss if the water wasn't in prime condition yet.
So now we have a very nice 30 gallon tank with 3 little goldfish! Oh well, Sam is so happy with those 3 fish, and hopefully by this weekend we can add some real fish and get this looking like a real tank soon.
Here's the sort-of finished product.
Thanks Kevin for the tank, and for putting such big smiles on Sam's face!

I'm there with you and the cleaning thing... It's so gross cleaning those things. It looks like Sam is pretty happy with the arrangements! That's a nice tank you got for a great price!
Congrats on your new fish tank. We just got rid of our after 6 years. It was just too much work. So make Gary keep to his word. :)
What cute boys! Boy, you can see the joy in Sam's face! I love Alex's silly faces! So cute!
What a fun thing for Sam!!
How fun!! Sam looks like he is in heaven with his fish! :) I might have to send Carson over to help Sam enjoy his pets, (since I don't see any pets in our household anytime soon...I am totally in sync with your feelings on pets!) But we all make sacrifices for our kids...they are worth it! You are great parents!!
You are brave! I had a fish tank when I was 18 and Chris inherited it when we got married, which means he cleaned it for me (even while we were dating) and it was disgusting! We decided to sell it at a garage sale, along with the fish and the GINORMOUS "scum-sucker". It was actually a bit sad to see my fish go, but I'm glad we don't have to clean that tank anymore!
I used to love watching them swim though and I'm sure Sam does too!
Good job caving on the fish tank! I've always wanted one. They are so fun to just stare at. I agree with Kristi, you better make Gary keep his word!!!
Those dimples are pretty dang cute. Completely worth the tank.
Hey I love to read your blog! You have the cutest family. If you don't mind I would to continue when you go private! My e-mail is Chelseam7@gmail.com
How fun! We tried the fish 2 times, but it turned out as a no go. We had to get rid of our puppy after Kylie was born because of allergies. I hope the fish work out great. I hate cleaning out the tank, my parents had a 100 gallon and made me clean it YUCK!
